my mechanic recently replaced the spark plugs and cbles on my 00 jetta 2.0. the spark plugs are under the cylinders, therefore he had to unscrew the cylinders, letting air go inside. after completing thr job, the engine vibrates, he said it's because of the air that entered the cylinders; which also caused the check engine light to turn on. so, is this true?

Sounds like you used a mechanic that does not know about VW's. Probably did not put wires on very good or did not gap spark plugs very well. May have put wires back on in the wrong order. Need to check firing order.

Any DECENT set will have 5 leads, one for each plug and one for the cap to coil (which is the one you need), but there's not a great deal of point just replacing one as if that's worn, then chances are they all are. If it was me, for the price of them I'd change the cap and rotor arm too as they're around £10 for both.

NO! This is not true. What happened is that he inadvertently pulled loose a vacuum line (or broke it close to the engine) allowing that section of line to leak. This in turn caused the egr(exhaust gas recirculating) valve to malfuction , thus the check engine light. It is an easy fix .

I am an experienced mechanic, my profession is Transmissions, but I am also pretty good with other vehicle systems. You need to take your vehicle to a reputable mechanic and have that vibration fixed before it does permanent damage to your vehicle.

That's one of the most rediculous things I've EVER heard....

When you buy a new car, does the dealer tell you it might run bad for for a while???

it depends on how long it's been since the job. if i were you, i'd get a second opinion from another mechanic, preferably one you or a friend trusts.
