These names have not "turned female" they are used for both boys and girls only with different spellings:
Female - Lesley
Male = Leslie
Female - Lindsey
Male = Lindsay
Also why is it "cruel" because some spotty little jerk off might "tease" him about it for a few years in school? I've got news for you all, EVERYONE gets teased in school and if its not your name its your ears or your spots or your accent or your clothes or your hair or something else. Why should the reactions of a bunch of stupid little playground Hitlers influence what you name your child? They will only be at school for a few years out of their life.
Call your child what you like. If others don't like it thats their problem.

Leslie for a boy is such a bad idea. Leslie gives the idea of a fat blob sitting drinking beer and watching football all the time. He finds sandwiches under the rolls of skin after a week to snack on. He is a lazy slob.
Lindsay for a boy gives the idea of someone who is quiet and studious. He does not want to get into trouble at school and stays out of the radar range of the class bullies. He is a little nerdish and plays computer games a lot.
Hope this helps.

certainly not!! my name is Lindsay and although I am female the spelling is the masculine (Lindsay) and if I had a boy I would have named him Lindsay, but i had a girl, so I named her Lesley(female spelling) when i was born my parents did not want me to have the traditional middle names of my family so they named me Lindsay as it is a family surname and thought it would satisfy the elders in the family. It did phew!! In Scotland it is still a masculine type name for a boy and i think it is nicer for a boy than a girl. and at least it is different without it being over the top like some of the strange names that people have taken to naming their children these days

Leslie isn't too bad - I know at least 4 male Leslies and only 1 female!
But Lindsay! I would only name a boy Lindsay if I wanted to conduct a social experiment on what constant taunting does to a boy!!

Not at all. I am all for tradition personally. Ignore people who say things like "your child will be bullied and ridiculed at school". When he first goes to school at age 5, his peers will be too young to know (or care about) whether his name is masculine or feminine. He will grow up with these kids, and they'll know him for who he is.
Anyway, he'll be a 'child' for what 18 yrs at the most? He's then got another 80 years as an adult in the real world. Nobody's going to give his name a second thought. It'll represent who he is.
Go with what you want. Good luck!

Leslie wouldn't be so bad as he would get Les but not Lindsay or Shirley.
There are plenty proper names to choose from.

just don't do it lol, HE WILL BE MADE FUN OF BECAUSE OF ONE OF THIS NAMES the fact that you asked this question shows there may be a problem with it and if you can pick that up so can loads of little kids when he goes to school and all through life. He will go on to dislike his name because of the names he gets called, why do this to him?
If it is because of a family tradition maybe give it to him as a middle name but only if it will hurt your family a lot if you don't use it.
Apart from the fact they will get called names at school it can affect other things like when people see the name and expect a lady but get a man or that a women thinks the man is femme because they have a femme sounding name, plus all these people will know you chose that name for him, so they might think you have strange taste too or are a bit weird lol

NO. He'll get over it.
I know men named Shannon, SEVERAL Ashley's, and Several Staceys.
They are no worse for wear. They catch a lil teasing but nothing more than every other kid in school.
I personally would NEVER give my kid a girl name even if it did USED to be a boy name, it isnt anymore.

No there are lots of unusual names these days for babys, I mean Apple, for Pete's sake I don't think anyone will bat an eyelid at a boy name Leslie or Lindsay.
