R-12 uses threaded fittings. 134A uses quick disconnect fittings. If you already have a can of refrigerant it should have some instructions with it. You should check for leaks before adding refrigerant. this requires some special equipment. I would guess you have a leak in a car that old.

If it's a 91 it may use R-12 refrigerant,if that's the case you must be a certified A/C tech and produce documentation to buy R-12. If the system has been retrofitted with R-134a it should have a sicker ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE somewhere obvious to indicate the retrofitting technician, the refrigerant type and re-charge specs. You can buy a diy re-charging kit at any automotive parts store. Most of the charging kits will include refrigerant,a tap and hose ,and instructions you should be able to follow easily.

there's a distinction between the examine engine mild and the upkeep mild. i think of the single which you’re speaking approximately is the upkeep mild. to teach this off you are able to desire to have the substantial in the off place, carry the odometer reset button and turn the substantial to the on place on a similar time as nevertheless preserving the reset button, proceed preserving till the mild is going out. turn the substantial to the off place and then attempt turning the vehicle lower back directly to be sure if it worked. the extremely examine engine mild skill that the vehicles pc has stumbled on something incorrect with the vehicle. it may desire to be a type of issues from the gasoline cap not being tight adequate to a minimum of something substantial. in case you be conscious of that it replaced into something small and you prefer to reset it flow below the hood and locate the fuse field that is located by the battery and do away with the fuse for the ecu for greater or less 30 sec and then reinstall it. that could desire to reset the ecu. beforehand you do this i could attempt to be sure what the subject is. In my case it replaced into basically a lose gasoline cap and after tightening it, the mild in no way went off. So I bumped off the fuse for 30 sec and the mild has not come back on when you consider that. wish this facilitates.

if you have no mechanical experience or your just not that handy, you probably shouldn't be trying to charge the ac. it probably take between 2-3 quarts of oil. you could always put a quart in and then check the dipstick and add as needed until the level is correct.
