Straight edge doesn't mean you can't take medication prescribed for you by a doctor. It means you don't take drugs recreationally. So if you are straight edge, and have severe back pain that you doctor prescribes Vicodin for, it is obviously ok to take it. If you steal some Vicodin from your parents' medicine cabinet and take it when you are not in pain, that is recreational prescription drug abuse and would not be straight edge behavior.

Straight edge (also known as sXe, and xXx) refers to a lifestyle (deemed both counter culture and subculture) closely associated with hardcore punk music. There is considerable debate over what constitutes the practice of the straight edge lifestyle. The most widely associated perception involves practicing at least some degree of abstinence from alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Some views may also include abstinence from caffeine, following a vegetarian or vegan diet, and abstinence from various levels and forms of sexual activity.
Bet you weren't ready for all that lol

My stepsons are straight edge and this was brought up at the dinner table one night. Basically, it's whatever you believe in. I personally think so long as you're not abusing the medication it's ok.
