Must be a good reason.

It is not that unusual in he said/she said cases for a person to plead guilty to a lesser charge knowing in advance what the penalties will be than to risk a trial and not know what the outcome will be. Craig said he was not doing what the officer said he was doing. Most people would believe the officer. Sometimes it is better to plead guilty to a minor offense you didn't commit than to go to trial and be falsely convicted of a greater offense that you also didn't commit. Also, generally it saves the cost of going to trial, which is very expensive even for a minor case; and usually it prevents the "crime" from being splashed all over the news. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct - which usually only carries a fine or probation. In the past it was almost routine for drunk drivers to plead to disorderly conduct to avoid the much higher penalties for drunk driving.

(The other reason this is done is when someone is guilty, but works out an agreement called a plea bargain)

The crooked, possibly liberal plant police officer saw a Senator and thought he could make a step up in his position by "busting" someone big with some false moves. The COP solicited Senator Craig, not the other way around. I hope Senator Craig sues. Senator Craig had a SCHEDULE to keep, the cop was playing footsie in the mens room with LOTS of people. Seantor Craig just wanted to move on and let this crooked creep cop play his little game.

Yesterday, I read in an online article that he said he plead guilty because he wanted the whole issue to go away. I don't know if that's going to work, though. I have the feeling that Larry Craig is actually innocent.

Because he was guilty he tried to get a little on the side 3 months before he pleaded guilty. He is just as guilty as all the other sorry Republican that have been caught and put out to dry in prison. Tom Delay is opening up his bug eyes , he'll be leaving out on the bus to where ever they send the rest of these sorry Republicans con artist.

Because he thought that way it wouldn't become an issue, he figured if he appealed it would be a big story and if he pleaded guilty then the story would be over and the media wouldn't persue it and it wouldn't affect him, it was really the best decision from a PR standpoint he could make given the circumstances, but it backfired

think about it: he plead guilty, and then after he did so said it was the wrong decision and that he just did it "in hopes it would go away" so that he doesn't have to go to court and be PROVEN guilty. that would be even worse.

he thought he would just have to pay a fine and be done with it. If he said innocent he had to go to trial and he thought that would come out.
The police must have told the news they arrested him. If they did not tell the press he would have paid his fine like any one else.

I don't know, maybe he wanted to catch his plane!...the cop did not get any real evidence, you just cannot go around and accuse a person of solicitation when you did not get him to actually solicit...

...just a case of Bad police work, and Mr. Craig will probably get rich because of it, so there you go....

I don't know. If one was to go to trial many other things could be brought up at the trial. Perhaps things he'd like to keep secret or private. I really don't know, only he does.
