You haven't said much about what your goal here is in replacing the HK deck.
HK systems tend to have independent amplifiers to each speaker which means you're going to need a deck that can handle multiple feeds if you're ONLY changing the deck and not the speakers and amp sources too.
Fortunately most decks handle this. You next need to check the resistance (OHMS) for your particular BMW/HK system.
All that being said, my favorite alternatives would be Pioneer first, Clarion second and Alpine third.

The H/K stereo is great....not sure why you're looking to change it. What I can tell you is that it wouldn't be a simple exchange.
