To much freon will run the pressures to high and can lock up the compressor. What is the year, make and model and i can tell you how much it takes.

Most cars have a sticker under the hood somewhere that will say R134a and an amount, there also an amount for pag oil which should also be added if the compressor was replaced. Yes too much of either can be a bad thing If the compressor grenaded was the whole system flushed?

Putting in too much will certainly damage your compressor;;;;;;;putting it in imporperly will also damage/destroy it. The line must be purged to get rid of the air. A set of gages or the sight glass if it has one is the best to determine the correct amount. If the compressor was replaced; a hard vacuum should have been put on the system before any freon was added. who put the compressor on? why did they not pull a vacuum and put in the necessary freon?

If you replaced the compressor did you put oil in it. The next thing is pull a vacuum with a vacuum pump to remove all air in system and check for leaks before adding freon. Then you need a manifold gauge set to put in the freon and maintain proper pressures. It ain't just put in freon.

YES it could be bad - Some systems have a high pressure switch as well as a low pressure switch.IT depends of the size of the system compaired 2 the vehicle size. U need 2 find someone that knows how 2 READ the LOW & HIGH side pressures on the gauge !! & what the Ambient Temperature is @ the time of recharging. DON'T ASSUME that (any) autoZone or Mekinek knows AC systems. Check there resources !

The place that replaced your compressor should have done the recharge at that time. As far as overcharging it goes, it will only hold so much.
