What is possible and what is probably is the difference between experiencing fear and being ruled by fear.
Most hearts don't simply stop beating in the next second. Medically, this type of heart failure is extremely rare and usually related to longer term health consequences.
We certainly can frighten ourselves -- the curse of an intelligent species.
In addition to your perspective, our hearts can go on beating for decades to come. Our hearts can continue to beat for years even if we are in a comatose state. The average heart beats for about 80 or so years.
I have no problem being an organic machine.

Prove they do not, so you aren't really dead just disembodied.
