My friend told me that you can still not be a virgin even if you never had sex.
Is this true or not?

By definition of a virgin you have not had vaginal sex. Any other definitions or meanings of other sexual acts do not change the one only thing that determines virginity.

The word virgin, I feel, is overrated.

Some folks feel if a girl's hymen is broken, she is not a virgin. Fact is, she could have broken her hymen by riding a bike or riding a horse, or there may have been a traumatic injury to her pelvic area that could have broken it.

I feel a virgin is a girl who saves herself, preferably for her new husband, and has sex with him for the first time. If her hymen is not there, that does not mean she is not a virgin...it is the emotional aspect that she KNOWS she is one because she has never had sex before.

According to the medical definition, no.

Virginity is a very personal matter and is deeper than the medical definition, however, so in my opinion, I think it could be true. What about gays and lesbians that never have sex with the opposite sex? Will they be a virgin for the rest of their life because they never had vaginal penile intercourse?

Technically, if your hymen (a thin flap of skin in your vagina) has been broken, by anything, you are not a virgin. But the term 'virgin' means something different for everyone. For some people. it only means that you have not had sex-whether your hymen has been broken or not. Some people have even torn their hymen while in gymnastics. It happens like that too.

If you have not had sexual intercourse then you are still a virgin. Even if you have done other things. Based upon the definition that you have to have had intercourse to loose your virginity.

She's probably talking about the hymen, which breaks the first time you have sex. It's a thin layer of skin/tissue nonsense.

It can break before then, though, if you were doing something active such as horseback riding and you probably wouldn't notice.

It depends on what "sense," or definition of that word you are using.

If you're simply talking about vaginal penetration it is possible, of course, to have had your vagina penetrated, through masturbation, without having had sex with another person.

What? Once you have sex, you are not a virgin. If you haven't had intercourse, you still are.

That's not true. You will be a virgin no matter what if you haven't have sex.

sometimes your hymen can rip while horseback riding, while you are rocking back and forth on the horse. so it is true, from my knowledge
