I am a Canadian, holding a valid Quebec driver license . For some reason, I need to drive my father's car which is registered in New Jersey to Montreal and stay there for some time. Do I need other documents than my Quebec driver license , Canadian passport, the car's registriation and isurance card? How long can I drive this car in Canada?

If your father drives the car into Canada, then Customs will see him and the car as temporary visitors to Canada.

You could then drive it within Canada. with no problem, as far as Canadian law is concerned. Vehicle insurance certificates issued in any US State are usually recognized as valid coverage for Canada.

Note that many insurers require full disclosure of all drivers, even if temporary, therefore, in order to maintain mandatory insurance coverage, you would need to notify (and possibly obtain approval from ) your father's insurance company .

.
If you were to arrive at the Canadian border alone, driving the car, you would have a lot of explaining to do to Customs, and the car would almost certainly be refused.

This is because Customs would see this as a Canadian attempting to import a vehicle from another Country, and both Federal and Provincial legalities apply to that. You would have to convince them otherwise, and doing so without preparation would almost certainly mean the car would be refused entry.

You should get the full details from your father as to why the car has to come into Canada in your care, and then speak directly with Customs (Canadian Border Services Agency).

If your father (or another American citizen) does not accompany you will not be allowed to drive the car into Canada without a waiver from Canada Customs. Check with Customs for details.
Or: does your father live near an Amtrak station??. The train ride from Montreal is most pleasant.

Also, the car MUST have insurance meeting Canadian standards. If it does you need to get a Canadian Compliance card from your father's insurance company; clip it to the car's registration.

Juan is wrong. Many rental cars, especially those rented in border states, can be driven to Canada but there is usually a small surcharge.

It's a little oddity in Canadian laws..... NO you can't. You can't drive it across the boarder, you can't drive it in Canada. So say all the rental companies, might be just rentals? I would start by calling the Registrar of Imported Vehicles and see if they know more.

Go figure? I think they are concerned about keeping track of used car imports. So, it's okay for an American (tourist) but not a Canadian driving it.

you're able to desire to have in hand a certificates from the vet proving that the cat has been vacinated in the final 2 years for rabies and distemper. Failure to furnish such documentation will bring about get right of entry to for the puppy being denied.
