43 percent of the federal offenders were Hispanic.

But what I find most interesting is that of the 29,000 or so of them arrested, 14,000 were arrested for immigration laws (the rest is mostly drug trafficking). Although immigration is technically a non-prison offense. 90 percent of the offenders are sent to prison.

Why is this so?
Is it possible the justice system is unfair?

Ashley - that is exactly the point. All races do indeed commit crime. So why is it that some races are arrested more often than others, while others manage to avoid suspicion.

I don't know why you would expect any thing except sarcasm as an answer to this dumb question. My second department was a large city agency with cops of every race. During the 30 years I was there it did not matter the race of the cop or the race of the suspect, an arrest was an arrest. The only thing I ever noticed was an acute sense of embarrassment when arresting someone of your own race (white, black, brown, or yellow), especially when they did something criminally depraved or brazenly stupid.

Yes, I was aware, and yes, it is unfair as the punishment for immigration violations should be deportation....in fact, if you are an immigrant....the punishment for anything other than minor traffic violations should be deportation. It is unfair that I pay to support illegal immigrants (hell, I shouldn't even pay for criminal citizens...make them work for it all themselves). However.....are you aware that "imprisonment" can mean INS detention? That is, indeed, considered imprisonment....and that would mean they are getting exactly what they deserve....i.e. "fair" punishment. Are you aware that there is no known jurisdiction, be it local, county, state, or federal, that black people do not commit proportionately more crime than their population? Are you aware that your same-ole-thing questions show you are part of the problem by being more attentive to (1) encouraging an idea of victimization by whitey (your other questions) or the justice system (don't commit crimes if you don't want to be involved in the justice system!) and (2) paying more attention to every race but your own? Are you aware that you continually point out how minorities are victims, rather than how minorities are responsible for their own successes and failures? Are you aware of how childlike and whiny-little-girl that makes you look? Post some questions about the problems of your own race. I'm curious to see if you have the balls to investigate and debate the problems within your own culture as opposed to everyone else's....and if you have the balls to quit blaming whitey, the justice system, the fire hydrant down the street.....

it's a lot more complex than just saying "I think border jumpers should under go punishment and charged under federal laws" we have to look at the laws passed through the house bill to determine where does border jumping into our country fall out of our moral values? personally, If we charge them with a crime, what good is that to send a message to them? sending them back sends no message to the jumpers that we will not tolerate their determination to come into america. sending them to prison is a way to let them know you will be confined in our legal system until we feel like sending you f-ers home.

anyway, it's not like the murder rates in the black community where we have no question about the crime, and the majority opinion about murder. I would question a person if they had a problem with the justice system locking a black guy because he just murdered someone for money of a guy who was just pumping gas into his vehicle in broad daylight.

The justice system has always been tainted. Laws that need to be implemented are not. Laws that need to be abolished is still on the books. It is a preconcieved notion that if your skin is a certain color that you not only committed that crime but have committed others that they just do not know about. They also believe that they are more likely to repeat the same offense. The justice system has never been color blind and it is doubtful that it ever will be. Many people that "uphold" our legal system are from generations that "uphold" our legal system. I have included a few really good links.

I don't trust statistics for the same reasons as I've previously shared. So, no, I DON'T know that hispanics were arrested for more federal crime last year.

I think you mean the hispanics from Mexico? The illegals immigrants from Mexico? We have a serious crime problem here in Arizona with the illegal Mexicans. I can't say for the other hispanics. My in laws are from Cuba and my husband is Cuban. None of them have ever been arrested or anyone in their family. They are all legal citizens and my husband and his siblings were born and raised in NY. Can't help you with that. I hate to see things turn racial though. I don't think our justice system is unfair. I know plenty of judges and cops that are screwed up to everyone, not just non-white races. (I've worked in the legal field for over 7 years).

why does it matter? all races commit crimes why does it matter who got arrested more hispanics or blacks when every race needs to come togethr to mimimize crime

it doesnt matter why one race commits more crimes than others thats trivial. people can only be responsible for themselves not their race so YOU don't commit crimes and YOU don't become part of the black prision statistic
