apparently after todays div 1 (michigan) and div. 2 (appalachian state). there is alot more parity and little disparity between all 3 divisions.

Appalachian State is what used to be Division I-AA, not Division II. Division II schools are usually smaller state institutions like North Dakota, South Dakota, Grand Valley State, Northwest Missouri State, Valdosta State, etc. Division III schools are usually smaller private schools which do not offer scholarships, like Case Western, Albion College in Michigan, Lycoming, Mount Union, etc.

There are 120 Division I-A schools, about 140 Division I-AA, 175 or so Division II, and 240 Division III schools.

Division I are all the big schools, like probably around 120.
Division II is smaller schools.
Division III are the smallest, little, tiny schools.
