it a very important male in my life who has a terrible temper. how can i help him get rid of it?

Well, do not think that it is your problem, it is HIS problem. HE needs to learn how to manager his feelings and tendencies to act them out. Pardon the expression "anger management", but that is what he needs, with a licensed and trained therapist. You can not do it, and please do not put such pressure or expectations on yourself, leave it to the professionals, and he has to want the treatment, you can not trick him into changing.

cant really get rid of it but you can help him find ways of releasing that anger on something like bowling, or a going out for a walk.

YOU cannot break someone else of their bad habits. They have to want to change themselves. They have to admit that they have a problem and commit to resolving it.

Talk to him. Tell him how important he is to you and that he is really in need of help.
