It is really up to you and your personal preference. I, however, encourage you to live on campus if it even remotely interests you. Yes, it is going to make your bill go up, but the experience is worth it. By living on campus you have more of an opportunity to meet people and mingle with your peers. Living off campus kind of shelters you from your school and your peers, making it difficult for you to get involved. There is more to college then just classes, though they are priority, so keep that in mind. Living on campus can be difficult at first, but the payoff is totally worth it. Good luck!

PS. If you do not like to share space (or never have), I recommend looking into schools that allow you to have single rooms. I went through three roommates my freshman year before I finally got a single room.

I always think that it is a good idea for a student to live in the dorm, because as close as you might be to your family, this is a time to change the nature of the relationship as you become an adult. Living under their roof just means that you continue as you were before, only in a different location in this case.

That's one way. Another is staying home for a while if it's close. That way they won't have to pay room and board too.
