Today is 9/1/07, and my last period was on 7/7/07. When I missed my period in August, I didn't really notice. When Mid-August hit, I thought, "oh, I should have had a period by now." I bought a home pregnancy test at the pharmacy and it came out negative. I thought I was ok. Two weeks later, I still haven't had my period. Next week I will have missed two periods. I have hypothyroidism and I'm on Levothyroxine. A friend of mine told me that she has a thyroid problem, too, and for both of her pregnancies, she never tested positive on a home pregnancy test. I made an appointment to go to the Doctor, and she took another urine test there. It was also negative. The doctor said the only way to be sure was to have a blood test done. I said I didn't want a blood test because I couldn't afford the lab work. How long should I wait before I use another home pregnancy test, and at what point should I whip out a credit card and charge a blood test? How accurate are these tests?

Oh yeah, and people keep asking me if I "feel pregnant" but I've never been pregnant before and I have no idea how that "feels." I'm not nauseated, with the exception of last week when I was sick. My BMs seem normal. I'm definitely more tired than usual, but I'm blaming that on the head cold from last week. Just since yesterday, though, my breasts have felt really heavy, and although they are not sore, I feel very aware of their presence. I have also gained 10 pounds in 2 months?

Oh yeah, and I'm having WEIRD food cravings, like tapioca pudding. I can't stand the stuff and suddenly I want it for breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner. The other night I decided I wanted a hamburger with pineapple and goat cheese... I know pregnant women have food cravings, but isn't that later in a pregnancy? Like, third tri-mester?

Do you have the pregnancies symptoms such as morning sickness, breast changes, fatigue, frequent urination, mood changes, food cravings etc?

If you have the above symptoms, then get a pregnancy test done. The best is blood test to determine the HCG Hormone level. Good luck!!!!!

Yes, it is possible to be pregnant even if a urine test is giving you a negative. It's all about how high your HcG levels are and it may be that yours are very low right now.

Pregnant women also have cravings and aversions very early. I am only 9 weeks pregnant now and I've been having weird cravings for the past few weeks, as well as strong aversions to certain things I usually like (hot coffee in the morning, beer, etc.). So it's very possible you are experiencing pregnancy-related cravings.

I would go get a free blood test at the Health Department if money is an issue. That's where I got mine done.

I would not wait longer and do a urine test. You need to find out as soon as you can if you are pregnant or not so you can make the appropriate lifestyle changes and start getting regular prenatal care.

All the best to you!

Due to the way a home pregnancy test works, it would not be effected by hypothyroidism. If a doctor does a urine pregnancy test, they normally just use an equivalent to a home pregnancy test. The home pregnancy test measures if you have a pregnancy hormone. Those tests are super accurate at about 99.5%. If you have a positive test, you should assume you are pregnant.
I would actually have a concern about your thryoid levels. Another cause for the weight gain is if your thyroid levels are low.

Well I would say that you should have the blood test. If you want to be sure and you aren't showing up on a home test then you should definately be checked. I would also maybe get an internal exam done. I saw a doctor when I was 20 days pregnant and he was able to tell that I was pregnant. But like I said if your hormones don't show up on home tests I would definately look into getting a blood test done.

Whip out the Visa and have the blood test done; see if you can get your thyroid levels checked at the same time. You'd be 8 weeks along now if you were pregnant and you really need to get this figured out soon whether it's to make sure you receive optimal prenatal care or if you decide to terminate. If it's not pregnancy, it could be related to your thyroid and you may need your medication adjusted- also very important!

just becouse two tests were negative does not mean for defo your not. sometimes the test cannot pick up the hormones and therfore reads negative. i'd go to the dotors and they will do another test and if it still says negative they usually do a blood test to be certain. sometimes you caN HAVE MANY TESTS NEGATIVE AND THEN THE BLOOD TEST MAY BE POSITIVE IT JUST DEPENDS ON THE LEVELS OF HORMONES. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Wait another 2wks and take the PT in the morning when you first wake up. That's when the pregnacny hormone shows up better, If not then just go get the lab work if that comes out negative. So you can stop worrying yourself!

Blood tests are 100% accurate or something very close like 99.999999%. Maybe you should wait before you spend the big cash... just stay away from alcohol until you know for sure.
