Any tricks I need to be aware of? I have a blank D drive, and an XP-Pro full install disk (with the key).

Specifically, how would I be able to boot into XP-Pro, if the normal boot process points to the active partition on the C drive?

Thanks!

Yes, you can install XP Pro in a separate drive, and since you are using Ubuntu, it's boot loader (GRUB?) should handle the booting options.

Something to keep in mind is that when you install Windows, it sets up its own MBR. It will overwrite your current boot record. Therefore, what you should do is to disconnect your current C drive before installing XP Pro. Then install normally, and when your are finished reconnect your C Drive. This way Ubuntu's boot loader will still be the default one.

I'm not familiar with Ubuntu, so I don't know how to set up Grub to see the new operating system, but that's not a difficult task.

the suitable thank you to verify which you do not shag up your 7 installation or bootloader is to bodily unplug the homestead windows 7persistent beforehand you install XP. to boot from a diverse bootloader on a diverse HD you will could desire to press the right key (ie: F10) at BOOT and choose the HD that has the OS you prefer. submit to in suggestions while installation OS in a multiboot configuration with one boot loader to place in them in the right order to decrease frustrations. deploy oldest to maximum modern homestead windows first observed by *nix. in case you install Linux/Unix final it turns into plenty much less difficult to manually upload the entries into GRUB (or bootloader of your determination).

When you install it, it should set up a bootloader, to handle that.
