My daughter still grinds her teeth and she is 12 now but has perfectly healthy and straight teeth. Take note of what your health visitor said ignore your daughter when she does it as there is little you can do to stop your little one from doing this.
Some babies suck their thumbs others have special blankets and your daughter grinds her teeth most babies grow out of it.

I'm with you, my daughter is also nine months and does the same thing! It's VILE, isn't it?!?!?! I wear her in a sling a lot of the time and I can FEEL the grinding like nails down a blackboard!! Yuck!
As to what you can do about it, unfortunately not a lot! They're just experimenting with these new sharp things in their mouths ;) I'm guessing they'll grow out of it soon! Your HV was right, just try not to make a big deal out of it and she'll soon get over the novelty!
Whatever you do, don't stop her by sticking your finger in there......she'll bite you......I speak from experience!!! Ouch!!!
Good luck, if you find a way, let me know!!!!

Your health visitor is right - you just ignore it and don't draw attention to it. If you react when she does it she will soon realise it is a way of getting your attention.
My son done it breifly at around 10 months and stopped pretty quick.
When she does start do something to distract her.
Don't give her a dummy at this age.

How about listening to your health visitor and ignoring it? What's the point of these trained and experienced women coming to see you and giving you advice if you're going to ignore it and ask the general public on Yahoo Answers.

She will probably outgrow it. I would also listen to your health advisor. My son did the same thing. We ignored him, but always had a teething ring for him. He loved that, but it didn't stop the grinding.

You can't stop her it is the way she releases her anxiety or stress from the events of the day. Either you do it or her father does it. I have 3 children and they all have had times where they would grind their teeth. They still do it and they are in their early teens

Well I'm quite envious that she's *got* teeth- my son is 9 months old and doesn't have a tooth in his head! He's still a "Gummy Bear"!

When the health visitor comes to call don't open the door. She will soon get the message that you are ignoring her.

Ignore it. Distract her attention when she does it, and never draw attention to it. She will grow out of the habit in a few months.
