I need to r&r the ciurculating water pump located in t he front of the motor. When I call the marinas to order the part they tell me that the 80 hrsp motor was not built in 1972. What year would this motor be and why would it be in my boat from the factory.

well, maybe the boat is a '62 instead of a '72. maybe someone put it in after the original was ruined. do you have any numbers for the boat or engine?

Well this sounds off. I know back in the 70's mercury had a 90 H.P. I/O but I never heard of an 80 H.P.
Now there may have been a 80 H.P. Outboard.
I not sure who made the 90. The 120 H.P. was a Chevy 4 cylinder. The 90 may have been also.
What you can do! Look on the engine block, usually around the starter. There will be some numbers on the block. Some of the "Good" machine shops may be able to tell what engine you have.
Where I live, I been using the same machinist for many years. They re-build the heads and turn cranks and cams for me. They can tell me any engine I ever given the Block number to.

IF, you talking about the water pump on the front of the Engine. Remove it and take it to NAPA, Auto-Zone or favorite parts store. Tell them you need the water pump for a 1972 Chevy LUV pickup and see if it the same as yours!!! ;-)
