I have been so stressed out for the past few months and I think I am depressed or something. I have really bad mood swing and it is affecting my work and relationship. I have a 4 month old and after a month of breast feeding I stopped and started birth control. LAst month, I stopped taking the pills in the middle to help regulate my period, so now it seems to be late. I hardly ever have sex and when we do it is protected. I think the stress is going wild. I keep getting sick and have severe mood swings. I lost a little weight, not a lot. I cry everyday. Life is just so hard. I don't know how to take this anymore and I get these feelings that I want to hurt myself severely. I have tried to deal with this stress. I have taken walks to cool down, I have written my feelings down, I have tried to relax and breath and count...nothing is working and I am going insane. I need some advice. What can I do to really chill out? I need smart answers cause I am really messed up and losing it. PLease

My Dear: You may have "post Partium" depression which may happen to some of the new mothers. Please check with a competent
OB -GYN (female doctor if possible) to get medication for that so you can function better. If you're having protected sex why are you taking birth control? ( or did you mean that is your protection?). I was suprised that you stopped breast feeding after a month !
(I guess you must have not want another pregnancy right away if you were having regular sex). However, I've heard that some women ( it may not be all women) don't have periods during their breast feeding time ( so they don't get pergnant while breast feeding). Even if you have periods during breast feeding, maybe you can continue to breast feed, ask your husband /partner use condums, and not take birth contorl bills for now while breast feeding ( best of the both worlds to keep baby and husband happy both !).
And......., take care of yourself for post partium stress and depression. You may have to take some medications for a short while to remedy that. Good luck.

You need to see a medical professional. You may have post partum depression, which often will present itself as anxiety. You also need to take into account the hormonal swings you may be going through. Between childbirth, breastfeeding, getting on the pill, and taking yourself off of it, your hormonal levels are probably not regulated, which can cause the swings in mood.

I had postpartum depression after the birth of my son, and I thought I was going nuts. After a visit to the doctor and a prescription of antidepressants, I was good as new in no time. Go see a doctor and start feeling better.

Sending positive thoughts your way...

You need to go seek help from a mental health professional. You could be suffering from post partum depression and if not just feeling overwhelmed by life and motherhood. Rather than going to your OBGYN or PCP go see a psychiatrist for a medication evaluation as they know best when it comes to prescribing psychotropic medication. Go see a therapist just to help sort through your feelings and thoughts, that's why they exist. It can be a great stress reliever. Try some relaxation exercies such as deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation. Take a day for yourself, get a facial, a massage, take a nice walk or drive. You must take care of yourself. I hope things improve sooner rather than later.
