What do you consider to be creative? Creativity is linked with higher right-brain activity. That doesn't mean that someone who operates predominantly left-brained can't be creative.
When individuals - who are accepted by the general public as being creative people - talk about their creativity, they use some of the same descriptive language to talk about their experiences when they are being creative. It doesn't seem to matter whether they are writers, musicians, actors, or some other kinds of artists.
"Being" creative might be a big clue. Get to a bookstore or library and find some collections of comments from creative types. Look for the similarities. A couple of books I have here at my fingertips that speak to this are, The Muse That Sings, by Ann McCutchan (composers on the creative process) and another little gem, Zen Guitar.

i dont know,exactly(or "definitively")'
But i do know this; that creativity and imagination, once put
into a "language", does rightly have a wonderful and good
"empowerment",chiefly,i think,directed against the personal
ills-of-life which afflict us all from time-to-time.
Exemplary creativity attunes the beneficiary to the good and
the simple(or simpler) things-in-life;their life that becomes
live able and important;a trivial life that nonetheless feels good, and "serene".
Karma,i believe,in another language.
So i guess that creativity is a form-of-Language,one that
reaches out and shows what a large and further possibility
exists in this one and only truly beautiful world.

all are different, but many have...
imagination... an ability to take what their senses tell them and visualize ways to combine or change it into new beautiful things and experiences.
wonder... being able to see things not with jaded eyes, but fresh creative ones. those are not barriers, they are guides and hurdles.
diversity... varied backgrounds and bodies of knowledge that help bring a great many things to the table when a solution is needed.. or a problem.
flexibility... not getting trapped into one way of acting or believing, and being able to switch shoes midstream if that's what is called for, or desired!
experience... a past full of images and stories from which to draw on.
inspiration... an urge to express themselves that shines at the most opportune (and inopportune) times.
