My son has always had a strong memory, however recently he has taken an interest in trying to memorize sequences of numbers. Just in the last 24hours he has memorized "pi" to the 50th decimal place and is interested in getting to 100 by tomorrow. Is this something we should encourage him to continue to develop?

I think knowing what pi is or just the fact that it exists is impressive at the age of 10.

Should you encourage him? Of course. You should encourage your son to do anything that would be deemed educational. Just don't let it take over his life. If he is memorizing pi every waking hour instead of playing with his friends for a little bit, that might be problematic.

that is reallly impessive BUT he doesnt know what pi is. if he did then that would be impressive. it took me like 3 weeks to get to about 108 digits but i did like 4 #s a day sometimes more. teach him wat pi and then you can be proud of him because to him he is just memorizing #s.

i dont thinks it a good idea b/c his mind is too young rite now...im very good at math too im 15 i know upto calculus3, i taught myself upto claculus2 at age of 13, but many genius in the history had mental problems when their mind went too far, 50 decimal places is very impressive, 100 is even more impressive but his pushing the limit and thts not too good, let his mind develope a little bit more then its ok....may after age of 13 or 14 is good......i never liked the number pi so i was never interested in it....but im interested in the number "e" and i know upto 30 decimal places but never tried to push the limit.

i sugest u give him other types of puzzle of puzzle such as rubiks cube....i've done it b4 and it took me a while till i was able to solve it.

Tell him to get a life.

Is he normal in all other ways ? I'd be more worried than proud.
