Six-year-old watches dad get beaten

A six-year-old boy watched his father get beaten by two men during a home invasion in Napier last night.

Detective Nick Clere of Napier police said the little boy and his father were in their Rutherford Street home when the pair burst inside.

The boy was taken from the immediate scene shortly after the attack began by one of the offenders, Mr Clere said.

The man's flatmate then arrived home and was beaten around the head.

"This occupant has managed to get away from the address and has located the six-year-old boy who was in a distressed state and taken from the house," Mr Clere told One News.

Police said there was no apparent motive for the attack.

Both men were sore and shaken, Mr Clere said.

Police were appealing to members of the public for any information.

A girl who starts menstruating as young as 9 years old is considered to be within the range of medically "normal" sexual development. It may not be average, but there are certainly boys who start to develop distinct sexual feelings and know their orientation as young as 10. "The traditional Scouting divisions are Cub Scouting for boys ages 7 to 10½ years, Boy Scouting for boys ages 10½ to 18 and Venturing for young men and women ages 14 (or 13 and have completed the 8th grade) through 21." The main issue is not the rare Cub Scout whose sexual development starts at an unusually young age, but the great number of Boy Scouts who would be medical anomalies if they did NOT develop a distinct sexual orientation by the exit age of 18.
