What is this radical simplified √20?

I just wanted to check my answer i got √2x√5 if u get a different answer could u explain.

this is how i got my answer √20=√4 x √5=√2 x √5

√20 = √(4 x 5) = 2√5

the actual answer is 2sqrt5.

You were almost there.

Look at your next to last step.

sqrt 4 = 2....it does not equal sqrt 2.

The answer is 2sq rt(5)
Explain.
sq rt20 = sq rt(4 x 5)
sq rt(4 x 5) = sq rt4 x sq rt5
sq rt4 = 2
So sq rt4 x sq rt5 = 2sq rt5
