I did a clean sweep last week and a box popped up saying my hard drive was 84% fragmented. I know this is bad. I tried to run the defragmenting program, but it said I didn't have enough free memory to run the program. I run windows 98 my computer is an antique! Any help is much appreciated.

Try running it in safe mode.

You could try to run the defrag after closing all running tasks and as many things as you can close in the tray. That might help, otherwise, its time to replace your computer with a newer one, especially since Microsoft no longer supports Windows 98 and is providing no security patches for it.

Hi there ,
Well I don't know if you have any answers yet but to defrag just double click your 'my computer icon 'then left click your 'local disc c 'which you should see ,(hey nearly done ok )and then click into tools which you should see defragment button ,well press and sit back for an age for it to get to work ----could take a long long time ,so only do it when you don't need access to it and just leave it on and check now and again ok
best of luck hope this has helped you ok

Its better to run the Disc Defragmentation in safemode, Go to Safemode, try running Defragmentation. If you still face the problem, please run chkdsk /f /r and it should get solved.
