I have a Canon printer and am looking to save a bit of money by buying original printer ink cartridges online. However, I'm a bit skeptical about it - the price offered is about £3 lower than normal, could these cartridges be fakes? I've heard of people selling fake memory cards for digital cameras which look very much like the real thing, but do you think people would sell fake cartridges??

I've used the Tesco ones before and found them really crappy... I've tried adjusting my printer settings to achieve better print results but to no avail. Still get loads of large black ink blobs appearing everywhere on my printouts, rendering them unreadable. The only time the printouts started to look readable was towards the end of the cartridge's life - i.e. the last 10 - 20 pages I've printed. So I think the Tesco cartridges are just no good for my printer. I'm back to using original ones. The refill ones from Cartridge World also produce quite good results on mine, but I find that Cartridge World's prices aren't really that "competitive"...

If the printer is old then the price could reflect that amount. If the cartridge is a copy and not original, then it will normally be displayed with compatible. Hope this what you are looking for.

I have never heard of fake cartridges and I hardly think it would pay to sell them but some cartridges that come with new printers have less ink than others < I found that the cheapest place for cartridges was surprisingly Tesco

Ink cartridges are VERY high tech. They are semiconductor chips with a lot of materials technology. and Each one has its own design, so there is no FAKE.
However, what you see is a combnation of
1. Old ink catrige
2. non-original ink
Those non-original cartridges are Refilled ink into OLD catridges---it is like new uphostery in the used car.
1. The ink cartridge is already used with a lot of milage----of cousre the performanc wiil be bad
2. Refiller's ink is not as good as original inks---refill on your own old careige may be OK for a short time, but on an unknow cartridge?
Those resellers of ink cartridges on Amazon.com are selling original cartridges are from surplus..if they say original it is original. Although sometime it is slightly out of date, it is OK.
I have used HP ink cartridges 2-3 years out of date , NO problem.

Ink formulations are proprietary, so which you would be able to under no circumstances purchase mind-blowing replace ink. some won't paintings because of the fact the "smart chip" isn't shopper resettable and the printer assumes your ink supply is empty or low. Others will merely not paintings because of the fact the ink isn't nicely matched with the ejectors. in case you have already refilled 3 cartridges unsuccessfully, you have already negated any fee discounts. I have been given bored to death too and offered a Kodak printer. Their refills sell for approximately 0.5 of what each physique else's sell for.

£ 3 pounds off sounds reasonable, they may be from a place where the VAT doesn't have to be paid (used to be channel islands). You need to look at the reputation of the supplier, try googling them and see if there are any blogs about them. Any popular item may have fakes about, if you are worried use a site that is UK based so Trading standards apply. Very cheap or "compatible" carts may well be recycled/refilled, and you take your chances with them. I killed 2 epsons with brand X carts. Never again!

A lot of times they will sell printer cartridges that are past their expiration date. If they don't show the expiration date don't buy it.
