Find and interpret the slope of the line through (2,130) and (5,250)

m = (250 - 130) / (5 - 2)
m = 120 / 3
m = 40
y - 130 = 40(x - 2)
y - 130 = 40x - 80
y = 40x + 50
x is the number of hours worked.
$40 is the hourly charge.
When x = 0 , y = 50
$50 will be the call out charge before work begins.

the slope is simply the change in the 2nd given points ( y coordinates, or $$$$) divided by the change in hours (x values), remember change means to subtract so:

if you go from $130 to $250 that is a $120 increase in $$$ (250-130) for a 3 hour increase in work time (5-2=3) so the slope is:

120 / 3 = 40 $/hr
in real life this translates to "the plumber is charging you $40 per hour"

slope = (250-130)/(5-2) = $40/hr.
The slope means the hourly rate for the job.
