At night. The air is cooler. At night you can water longer because the sun is down. In the morning your're trying to beat the sun before it gets hot.

Water in the morning because the night air can cause mold to grow on plants and for some reason the bugs attack at night.
Spray like a shower because with the the jet spray you can damage the plant. The shower will let the water sink in deeper instead of bouncing off the ground with a jet spray.

Hi:
The best time to water your lawn and your trees are in the morning. I live in zone seven which is still hot also. If you water at night time, there is a tendency for the moisture to hold in the ground and a chance for mold and mildew to develop.
If you trees are new, you should take a hose and put the hose on low and water around the trunk . Move the hose every twenty minutes to evenly water the tree. If the trees are well established, don't spray the leaves. I recommend to my clients if the weather is dry and hot, to water even your established trees with the hose on very low. If they are established, do this once a week through any drought.
Regular weather conditons will allow you to water not quite as often. Most established trees will survive with rain water. I hope this has helped some and if you need any further help, please feel free to contact me at my website. Good luck to you. I will direct you to a page I wrote on watering techniques.

Well it looks like people's opinions on this are 50/50. So, my advice would be to do either one as long as you don't water in the heat of the day! And as far as watering trees and plants don't use your spray nozzle, it is best to let the water saturate the soil heavily because if you are just watering the surface the roots will grow closer to the surface which will make your tree/plant less hardy. Just leave your hose on the ground allowing it to really soak in. GoOd LuCk!

Do it in the evening. If you water in the morning your lawn will go brown, especially during hot weather. Do it after the sun starts to set...thats the best time.
It doesnt matter how you water your lawn..personally I would choose the shower spray because it wouldn't take as long.

When the sun is up there is transpiration (plants will suck up the water). When there is no light, there is no transpiration and therefore, when you water at night, the water is wasted as plants won't suck it up.
Watering in the morning with a regular spray works the best.
If water sits, like at night, it can cause mold and will saturate the roots, (not good).

NEVER midday. It will cook your plants.
Morning is alright, but it won't stay wet all day.
I prefer just around 7:00, when the sun is still out, but the worst heat of the day is over. The plants will have all night to absorb the moisture.
And use the shower nozzle.

well, how about yourself?.... would you rather have a good hearty breakfast and have what you need to get you thru a day or have to wait until dark, after you've worked all day to get fed supper?....
water in the morning so the plants have what they need to get thru a day.....
and, for trees, a slow TRICKLE from a hose, not a spray, will get them the deep watering they need... or a soaker hose... or a water bag.... or a bucket with holes in it..... etc..........

Being it is still hot i would do it once in the AM and once in the late afternoon. Do not water late at night or after the sun goes down all that does is promote bacterial growth.

you should water later in the evening when the sun is not going to be beating down on them. Also, new plant need delicate watering, older plants can withstand harsher watering
