This penny has a backwards 5 stamped in the center of Lincolns neck,it had to be a mint flaw of some sort.Any suggestions on its value(if any)would be apreciated.Thank you.

The backwards 5 is deeply imbedded in the center of Lincolns neck,it isn`t raised or stamped. It is just strange.

We really need pictures for these kinds of questions. What I can tell you is: it's impossible for a backwards five to come from the mint. Some one has counter stamped your coin after it was released into circulation.

Try posting pictures on this website (there are many coin and bill experts here that can help learn more about it - there also may be people willing to buy if you are trying to sell):

Edit: Taiping has been doing this much longer than I have and after reading his answer, I can see how this is true. I have heard of dies wearing down before but not falling apart. I think it could be possible.

I would still suggest using the link above or reposting this question and using pictures. A much more definitive answer can be provided when you have them.

If there is a 5 stamped into the coin like you say it is not a mint error. If the 5 is raised, it could be a mint error, if the five is the same size as the rest of the date numbers and is the same style. As a die gets old and starts to fall apart a number can fall off and not to a coin. Letters can do that also. A coin dealer needs to see it. All error coins or most of the ones worth some dollars have to be authenticated these days. It is worth what you can get for it.

This sounds like somebody hit it with a tool and die marker, not a mint error - never heard of this one.
