well i was thinking. it seems like so many people go to the doctor when they are "sad" and they get prescibed medication. im sure there is depression, but not many people have it. it seems like a cop-out.
my mum has it apparently, and so does my dad. with my mum she just cries and wont move for days in her bedroom. and my dad is abusive- he gets on with my brother, but seems to hate me. when i was a kid he did that cliche thing of 'only hitting me where people wont see' (like torso) never arms or face. i don't know why. they are both on medication, but i think that makes it worse- if they got off their meds then they could sort their lives out. i don't think sad people should get drugged up- it masks the problem.
is depression real? everyone gets sad sometimes, but why do some people get so sad, and others just a bit. i feel i ought to have it, but i don't, and i get guilty cos my brother told me he wants to die.
so is it real?

Depression is real. I used to be very depressed for a number of years.

Medications exist which will treat the problem & cure the symptoms. But they are tightly controlled by psychiatrist, who make an excellent living by getting people "better" but not "well".

Not all doctors that treat depression are quacks but a lot of them are. Some really help people.

But one thing they all have in common is that they make tons of money. If you are cured of your depression then you won't be comming in to give them $400 bucks a month. So they make less money.

Personally I smoked pot every day for about a year and a half. That helped me. It gave me time to reflect on some of my problems & decide how I wanted to live differently.

But that's not for everyone.

What works for one will not for another when it comes to depression.

Pills never helped me even though I was on them forever.

Now the problem is gone from my body & I am free to live life.

Good luck!

about 5 years ago, I started to fall into a really depressive episode. At first I thought it was only because I had a bad break from a relationship but the feelings wouldn't go away even after I got a new girlfriend. It was wrecking my life until a point where it was seriously affecting my work and personal life.

She was very worried but at the same time couldn't understand why I was still sad and thought that I still couldn't let go of my previous relationship. Being the wonderful person that she is, she put aside her feelings and suggested I go for psychiatric evaluation. Many months later and even more anti-depressants, I was not coming close to being better at all.

After doing some research online, I found out the real cause as you described it really makes a lot of sense and purchased this program. The results were simply astonishing. I read this book over three times and put all words in action. Using this method, I've kept my depression at bay ever since. Up to date I'm still living happily with my girlfriend.

Depression Free Method?

Depression is real and is an imbalance of hormones in the brain, namely seratonin and dopamine. It's no less real than other hormone imbalances... think of diabetes. That's when the islets of langerhans in the pancreas don't secrete enough of the hormone insulin. Would you fault your mother and think of her as so weak if that was the condition she was being treated for? Same concept, in a basic sense, different organ.

Please talk to a trusted adult about the abuse you're taking at home. You and your mom shouldn't have to take the brunt of his rages. I think it would be worse if they weren't taking medication for their depression but it sounds loike the meds they're on aren't working well and that everybody could use the benefit of counseling. There are other medicines and combinations of medicines that might work better.

depression is a real symptom, but your dad being abusive doesn't sound like depression, it sounds like anger and aggression. Your brother needs to talk to someone about his wanting to die, if money is an object, then they have programs where he can see a councelor either at school or after. Get him help as soon as possible, he has already given you warning signs. As for your parents, they both need therapy/counciling; one for a change in meds to keep her outta the bedroom all the time and the other for anger.

Yes, depression is real.
If you're a teenager and you don't ever
experience it you're a rarity.
I don't agree with medicating it, but it is
something that has to be dealt with.

Support your brother. When he's 'down` help
him to get moving and do something, anything.
It usually helps.
Just staying active can beat most depression.

depression is real and the medications would not work if someone was just "pretending"
