Someone obtained my pin number and took approximately 500.00 from my checking account. I have no idea on how this happened. When I realized it was missing, I canceled the card.
How do they investigate it for you? Do they get pictures from the anytime or do they have a dollar amount that it has to be?
And if they do not investigate it, how can I get that information so I can see who did this?
Thanks

What did your bank tell you when you asked these questions of them?

Oh, it's real easy, a lot of times when you use your debit/pin # card to purchase fast food, they can quickly ask you for your pin #, of course just tell them to treat it as a credit, so you don't have to give your pin# and there are other ways as well.
Call your bank, my bank is a major bank and they (if you call them right away as soon as you notice something odd) will stop your activity on your checking account, retrace all transactions and issue you a whole new card/pin#, which is a headache but that is their way of protecting their customers.

Call your bank first. Different banks have different procedures in place to deal with fraud, pin #, I.D. theft, etc.

Talk to one of the branch managers. I know this won't make u feel any better but you're not alone, I saw about 5 people just when I was in several of our branches last year go through this.

Uh, your're dreaming if you think the BANK is going to investigate :)

Their stance is likely going to be it was your responsibility to safeguard the pin, and since you didn't its your fault.

They will argue that its impossible for anyone to figure out the pin.

You're out of luck plain and simple.

PS. If you happen to have a bank that even gives you the time of day regarding this issue, please let me know so i can switch banks.

Been there done that! Lost about $1000 when I got pickpocketed at xmas a few years ago. You know the cashier sees the pin, signals boyfriend to steal wallet, customer waits in line just hoping to glimpse pin and then steal wallet etc.

You have to go to the bank and they fill out a fraud affidavit for you and investigate the alleged fraudulent transactions. That could take a few weeks, but in some cases they may issue you a provisional credit. Go to the bank thought, they can't do it over the phone if you call the branch. I am a bank teller.

I think they have systems that notice unusual activities on the account, taking out money from multiple cash points, suddenly buying a number of items from different stores, etc.

Did you tell them the reason why you cancelled the card? Ask them how they will investigate your account.

Ah yes the fiscal responsibility argument . Every time a Democrat is investigated by the Republicans the left drags out the argument of wasting money. But , funny , this argument is NEVER used when the left investigates the Right. If there is someone or anyone in our government who is corrupt. I want them out and in jail regardless of political affiliation . The left will defend and perjure themselves to remain power.

If you told them and they do not at least begin to investigate within 10 days thereafter, then they (the bank) have to give you the money back. You do need to see who did this if they do not investigate at all.

This may help:

You'll have to ask at your bank to get specific answers on how they investigate fraud.

Research the atm -- and see if it has a camera... If not I think your stuck --- your closest friend took the stuff. Then put your card back -- unless you loaned it out ...New the PIN cause you told them...
