Hello. I have been trying to find megastores in the Netherlands such as Auchan from France, Metro by Germany etc... where we can shop everything from clothing, electronics, food etc. In the tourist information centre, I was told that this kind of store does not exist in the Netherlands. I do not want to believe this... If someone knows, could you let me know? Thank you!

the closest thing we have is mostlikely the V&D (vroom & dreesman) they have warehouses all over the netherlands.

you can look up the adresses, by postal code, city or brand here: http://www.vd.nl/Home/Vestigingen.aspx

for electronics and exotic foods, youre going to have to go to the bigger mall centres. Rotterdam has a big one callled Alexandrium, the Hague also has one, but i dont know the name.

They have a Metro here in the Netherlands but it's called the Makro. You need to have a store card to get in there, which usually means you need a Chamber of Commerce registration and be a "company." I think you're thinking of a Hypermarket, in which case I must disappoint you - I really wish we had them here! I would love to have the Auchon here.

Actually, there are a few grouped shops that you could consider such.
They are called "Winkelcentrum".

However, other than Carrefour or Metro, they are not one shop, but many smaller ones sharing an area, usually roofed over.

So, the tourist info was correct in saying that there is no one-shop-for-everything.

We have some bigger supermarkets, but they are like the town versions of the superstores.
And we think they are too big already.

It is not hard to go to the center of town and go into the shops you need or to a department-store and do your shopping there.
Some of them have a supermarket too.

no. sorry to disappoint you.. even our biggest supermarket here XL Albert Heijn is just a fraction of Carrefour. Dutch don't really have big "under one roof" shopping centres. Saves electricity - i think.
