What do you think is going through Miles' head right now after he hit Encarnacion in the eye last night??? Is Encarnacion's career over??? What is your opinion?

I think Miles feels absolutely horrible! I saw the interview with him last night and you can tell that he was very emotional. LaRussa in one of the interview's I saw was talkin about what happened and you could tell he was shakin up. There was no music or anything in the clubhouse afterwards and that never happens. I know that when they interviewed Ankiel he said that Encarnacion had been hit in the same eye earlier in his career so I guess you never know what's gonna happen. We as baseball fans hate to see tihngs like this happen and it is very scary. Just hope Encarnacion is ok. It would be devastating to the team because not only did Hancock die but there is a chance that Encarnacion's career is over.

Yes people do have to pay attention. . . but in the postgame show one of the announcers said that with the direction and speed that ball was hit in Encarnacion didn't have a chance to react even if he saw the ball. Pitches go fast but when they are hit off a bat they can go well over 100 mph

Even being 40 feet away, pitching to a 7-year-old with an aluminum bat, is bad enough! I've had my life flash before my eyes many a time. Like it was said, you have to pay attention at all times and take nothing for granted, especially at the speed the Major League game is played.

How many times have we laughed at Tommy Lasorda getting rolled at the All-Star Game when he got hit by the bat? The laughter went away when Coolbaugh was killed! It's not just baseball either. Every hockey arena has netting because a little girl was killed by a puck in Columbus, Ohio, a few years back. MLB may have to go to full face shields on the helmets thanks to this incident.

You really have to feel for Encarnacion right now. But Miles must feel sick about it. He certainly would not have done it on purpose. But he is probaly praying the hardest that Encarnacion will be able to come back. As far as his career, only time will tell, but if its anything like the injury Tony Conigliaro suffered in 1967, I wouldnt be suprised if it could be over.

There is no doubt that Miles feels absolutely horrible. I feel badly for him; this was simply a freak and tragic accident.

I also just viewed a Yahoo story that explains the severity of Encarnacion's injuries. My prayers are with him as he faces a difficult recovery.

This is a sad and shocking thing, but it was an accident with no intent. Mike Coolbaugh came out much worse. Here's hoping Encarnacion makes a strong recovery.
