The more I read some of the posts throughout Y!A, the more shallow I think a lot of the people are, criticizing others on appearances alone.

What will happen when gravity strikes and a body is no longer something to admire but something to keep healthy?

And a mind is no longer a playground but a source of wisdom?

Maybe I just have a "convenient" memory but I don't recall society being this extremely looks obsessed in the 70s. It was more about do your own thing, but now it's all about conformity. Back in '79 when I bought a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt "designer" jeans for $50 people thought I had went clean around the bend spending that much for jeans when you could buy a pair of Levis or Wranglers for under $10...nowadays if you don't cover your booty with a $200 pair of True Religion or Lucky Brand jeans, you're considered a nobody...and if you wear those Gloria Vanderbilts or Wrangler you're considered a redneck or a loser! Crazy, no?

The thing that annoys me most? All these people INSISTING you have to be same weight you were at 18 or you should be able to fit into your wedding gown. Puhleez. I'm sure there are some who can, but they are the EXCEPTION not the rule. I used to be thin, but now I am decidely curvier and bigger...not morbidly obese, but definitely I wouldn't fit my size 3 clothing from 25 years ago...and no matter how much I diet or exercise, this weight is NOT falling off. No, I'm not gaining weight, thank God, but it sure the hell isn't going away, either...

Seems like people have become more materialistic, meanspirited, unforgiving and more demanding of so-called "perfection" than in the past...yet when they miss the mark, they want to have all the compassion we can muster up.

No, I don't want to be judged on looks alone. It's crazy...why in the hell should I continue to try to pretend to be forever 18? Besides, I can remember when I didn't always feel so pretty at that age.

I'd rather spend my money on books, not Botox injections lol

I have struggled with being overweight all my life, and have been judged on a daily basis according to how I look. I wouldn't know any other way to be. I have a high IQ, a good sense of humor, and have always been a caring person; but just once in my life I would like to have someone carry on a complete conversation without once referencing what another person weighs. Unfortunately, it will never be any different as long as our children are taught on a daily basis thru the media and by their parents that your weight and your looks are the most important things.

I dont have much to do with people who judge others on appearances. If someone were to judge me by mine, I'd be in deep trouble. Over the years I've met people who look impeccable on the outside and are empty inside. On the opposite side of the coin, I've met some very challanged people who are so beautiful inside that their outward appearnace doesnt count one bit. I do have a lot of wisdom, but I keep one part reserved as a playground. I never know when it might be needed.

Never been one to judge on looks. Even when I was a kid very often noticed the beautiful people were the ugliest behaving. Tried to teach my children pretty is as pretty does just like my grandmother taught me. I'm still hoping to grow in wisdom until I no longer have breath in this old body. But admit to a playful nature. Love to tease my family. Of course they don't appreciate it one bit.

I learned at a very early age to never judge on appearance alone. Some of my best friends have been ones who were "outcast" because they didn't fit the parameters of what fashion at that time considered "pretty".

I have been studying people since I was five years old. I am very surprised that I didn't become a psychologist, because I have spent my whole life practising it!

You are right...eventually our bodies just become the container for our spirit and our soul. The wisdom we garner through life is much more valuable than our fleeting "looks".

Lovely question, I think you should be judged not on appearance, but clean and tidy help, but on your heart and knowledge The older I get, the less impressed with peoples money or other superficial appearances. I admire people who have kind hearts that are helpful, considerate and are not judgmental of others or prejudiced

Good heavens NO. Sometimes I just don't care. You know what I mean. Like right now. I would hate to know what they would think. I have on a ratty shirt that I wear when I am painting. I have been working on some cabinet doors. Ha, not looking real smart right now.

In our culture, many value youth and appearances above wisdom.
Luckily, the older I get the wiser I get. I don't judge people on their appearances. Some of the most beautiful people I know are people who aren't considered "pretty". They are kind, caring individuals who think of other people before they think of themselves. Beauty is ONLY skin deep.

I would not want to be judged on appearance alone especially if I am having a bad hair day.

We are the only first impression""""" and it is the stance and how you put your decor together and so much more goes into how you look > You must carry your looks well and then when they open their mouth wow then you know their back ground and their educational level. I can size anyone up in 6 seconds.
