federal tax on pot is $200 (an ounce). do the math.
as to how much tax the government gets one only has to look as far as gasoline. you are aware, i assume, that most of that $3 a gallon is tax.
the thing is, i don't want to specifically legalize it, though i use that term quite often. no, i want to de-criminalize it. government has no business telling me what kind of flowers i may grow and what i may do with them after harvest.
but i don't want big business involved either. what if the tobacco industry gained control of pot sales. a natural tobacco plant is nowhere near as dangerous as cigarettes. they'd screw it up in two years. "oh, it's just flavor enhancers..."

It would be virtually free.
More accurately, you could figure out the total square footage of your property, and divide by the number of square feet occupied by your plant(s), and figure that into how much you pay per month for your space.
You could use the $dirt+$water+$fertilizer=cost method if you wish.
If you never sell it, the government won't get involved at all.
You can grow it inside or outside. If you do it with artificial light (as some do) you'll have to factor in the cost of the electricity.
Basically though, it's pretty much free.

Let's see - a quarter ounce currently costs about $50, so 1 lb would be 64 x 50, or $3200 a pound. Legal, assume about 10% of the illegal cost would be $320, but add 25% tax to that and it comes to about $400.

A pound? Wow. I'm trying to figure out just how much a pound of weed is. I think it's a lot.
I'm going with $500. Government would get 50%.
Don't you think a 50% tax would be good? Or maybe 35%.

About $15.00 , but thats before taxes.
The total would probably be about $75.00,
(using the same cost/tax ratio as tobacco.)

Well, you could grow your own, which would keep the cost down and the goverment out of it.
