Are the cowboys tales in reality as depicted as those in hollywood?

A lot of them are based on based on true stories. Hollywood has exagerrated them greatly though. For example, the actual gunfight at the OK Corral there were only like 38 shots fired, in the Tombstone & Wyatt Earp Movies there were well over 100 shots fired. The real people back then were much dirtier than their Hollywood counterparts.

Yep, that's just about the way it was in the Wild, Wild West....
guns, cattle, horses and gunfights.

Cowboys rode their trusty steeds with a Colt .45 strapped to their side riding into town to mosey on up to the nearest bar for a shot of whiskey to wash down the trail dust in their throats.

Any man that would steal another cowboy's horse would be hung by his neck at the nearest hangin' tree.

Let's point out a couple of differences however between the "Hollywood Cowboy" and the real McCoy....
in the old West, Right Guard Deodorant, Schick razors, toothpaste, and many other toiletry and personal hygiene necessities of today were not even invented then....
so, use your imagination.

Have you ever noticed in the movie westerns how clean the towns are, no horse sh*t on the ground, everything is as clean as a whistle
Everyone looks clean, fresh clothes, cleanly shaved etc etc.

In real life western days, everything that you see in the movie western would be just the opposite in real life.
