A lot of teams gave up on him, or traded him for somebody else who also bombed: Rangers, A's Tigers, BoSox, Yankees. He was projected to be a big star when he come up with the Rangers, but he had three years as a regular (A's and Tigers) and couldn't hit better than .240. That just doesn't cut it for a 1B.

He wasn't even expected to be a regular this year; he only got the chance because Iwamura was hurt to start the year. Given his history, there was no reason for a team as deep as the Yankees to give him the opportunity. It took a lesser team with no other option, to give him the opportunity to finally fulfill his potential.

Pena is making $800k with Tampa Bay this season. Regardless that "would cost too much" is utterly irrelevant for the Yankees, I think the payroll could have floated that, or even five times that. However, Giambi was clogging the way, so Pena got to leave for greener pastures.

How's that detox for, um, whatever it was, going, Jason?

Pena had an option to end his contract (while playing for the Yankees AAA team) which allowed him to leave if he wasn't promoted to the ML team by a certain date. It's a shame that the Red Sox didn't keep him around for 2007.

At this point is would make experience to accomplish that. The Yankees have eaten parts of larger contracts so Pavano is quite a grain of sand on a coastline in terms of money. they choose pitching. devoid of it, they gained't win something. the destiny is now so that's to the Yankees suitable interest to get somebody ASAP!
