I have a very small cold water tank (13 litres) with two black moor fish. The tank I bought came with a filter and I have installed it so that the part which pushes out the filtered water is below the surface. Is that right or should it make bubbles?

But it seems to create a current under the water which the fish struggle to swim away from. Eventually after watching the fish swimming against the current, i saw both fish give up swimming and begin to be washed around the tank by the water flow. I have now turned off the filter.

Also, any food which has sunk to the bottom washes around the tank. Is there any need for the filter?

A filter is very essential for maintaining clear water in an aquarium, big or small..

There are three types of filtration:

Mechanical - removes particles from the water

Biological - provides areas for helpful micro-organisms to live

Chemical - changes water quality by adding oxygen or removing ammonia

Why not visit the website below and take a look..you will know exactly what you need and is best for your tank..

Cheers :-)

First of all your tank is way too small for 2 black moores, and yes they need a filter

You need at least a 80 l tank for your 2 goldfish
