I read of this specimen many years ago, and misplaced the article. The Chimp did not act like other chimpanzees. It would perform complex sequences of assigned tasks involving cleaning up its cell, and then would return to its cot and sit upright on it with its legs crossed -- not manic like other chimps. There was serious speculation that it might be a human/chimp hybrid.

O.o the only thing that comes to mind is OLIVER THE "HUMANZEE" he was very human like and such. i remeber watching a special about him on the discovery channel. i remeber they did resaerch on him in the 70's or 80's to see if he was a chimp, human or hybrid and that the dna test was inconclusive. then they lost track of where he has been living for a few years then found him again, did genetic testing again and found out he was a chimp

that special scared the crap outta me!! i was like, younger than 10 i think, and it was late and i was watching that...hes really scary looking!!

it sounds like you're asking about Oliver the 'humanzee'. there was a history channel or discovery channel report on him about a year ago.
He was a chimp with very human behaviors that the media touted as a possible hybrid from the '70s to the '90s.
He was never housed at U of Chicago, but he did undergo genetic testing there in 1996, proving that he was genetically a chimp.
