Divid top by bottom with remainder going over bottom to make a fraction.

To change it to proper mixed fraction:
4 divided by 3 = 1 remainder 1
quotient 1 will become whole number, remainder 1 becomes new numerator and the divisor remains as denominator:

Divide the fraction. Make the numerator (the top number) the dividend (number to be divided) and the demoninator (the bottom number) the divisor (number by which you divide the dividend.) You will get 1 1/3. 4 divided by three is one with a remainder of 1.
