Well Black is the presence of all colors, whereas White is the absence of all colors. When Black is added to another color it is a shade of that color. Whereas if you add White to another color it is a tint of that color.

Their colors because if someone wanted to know what color was my shirt, and it was black, you would answer : black. They wouldn't ask what shade is my shirt. They would say, "Okay, his shirt was a black color" , not a black shade. The same if I had on a white shirt. Plus, white doesn't seem like a shade being as though it's a blank color.

When you buy a box of crayons you get white, black, red, blue yellow, brown, orange, purple. (8pack).
In these are primary colors, red, blue, yellow, from these come all colors, green you get by mixing yellow and blue if you want to change the hue of the color you ad white or black whatever shade or hue you want.
White is the absence of color, black is coal. You achieve grey almost everytime you mix your primary colors wrong, orange comes from mixing red and yellow, you achieve different hues or shades of orange by adding white for pastel like colors and black for a harder darker shade. Add too much you get grey.

ok,..according to what i have been taught,..
'shades' r colours that have black added to them while 'tints' r colours that have white added to them,..
then u have 'tones' that r with grey,..
the rest ( without white or black or both in them) r 'hues'
(we were told that white is light and black is no colour,..i know,.awesome crap)
but i think that black and white would have to be COLOURS and not shades,..coz they r technically hues,..(i mean,.. jet black or lily white would be shades of black and white,..while pure black and white would have to qualify as colours),..
hope this helps.
