Actually it's "Davy Jones' Locker", and if you're sent to Davy Jones' Locker, you die under the sea. There are a lot of theories about who Davey Jones was, most of them not very plausible. The best one is that he was just some mean pirate who is now forgotten but who sent a lot of people to sleep on the bottom of the ocean in his time.

Are you sure you don't mean, "Davy Jones' Locker"? I've never heard of David John! Davy Jones was supposed to be the spirit of the sea, and the term refers to the bottom of the ocean. When a sailor drowned, he was said to go to Davy Jones' Locker.

The expression is actually "Davy Jones' Locker". It is a term used by sailors to mean the bottom of the ocean. When they say that, it means someone is dead by drowning. Davy Jones was supposedly a sailor who died.

It's DAVEY JONES' LOCKER, and referred to a watery grave when someone fell overboard on a ship, or when pirates were around to make people basically jump overboard by walking the length of a wooden plank. Their arms would be tied behind them so they couldn't swim to shore, and thus would drown.
