I think it has its pros and cons is just how you look at it
PROS- relationship that begin as friendship last longer than rushing into it.You also know the person well in advance of being with them.It could be taking your friendship to new heights.
now the cons
CONS- It can destroy a friendship if you have bad break up.Also destroy friendship if somebody cheats on the other person because you loose trust.and lastly what if that person doesn't like you the way you like them that can be devastating. hope I answered your question good luck.

As long as you are both on the same page, a platonic friendship between a male and female is perfectly ok. Boyfriends/girlfriends who would fret about a relationship like this often times just have insecurities of their own. If it's working now, leave it alone and enjoy the friendship. If it would ever begin to interfere with a relationship either of you are in, you could tackle it at that time. Laura - Crisis Counselor

I think platonic relationships are the best. There's no pretenses. Everyone is themselves because their just friends. Its when u complicate things with 'dating' that everything gets weird. Most of my best friends are guys because girls seem to feel they have to put on heirs. Guys are more about being themselves, and when they have a girl that they can chill around, she is usually the friend, not girlfriend. If u are good friends w/ someone, and u are contemplating dating, make sure u have some of the same tendencies, you expect the same thing from each other, and ya'll have a communative relationship, meaning you guys can talk to each other just as much as you did when u were just friends. If it feels like things will get complicated, dont do it! You'll lose a boyfriend and a friend.

Yes , i think that some of them do ruin friendships , espcially ones that have been in place for a lot of years. I think if i ever get a bf agian , I'll sure that my friends are ok with it. Because guys come and go but friends are forever.

Depends how strong the friendship was in the first place, and how comfortable you're able to be around the person when you break up. It can go both ways, I guess.

Well...only if the pair of you let it...you are friends...being boyfriend/girlfriend will allow you to get to know each better. There will be things you do like about each other but there may be some things, that you discover, you don't like about each other. If you respect each other and accept those little things then you will remain friends.
good luck with it.

From my experience, sometimes it can. I told my friend of forever that I liked him and he didn't return the feelings and now our friendship is kind of bumpy. But my other person I know has been bf/gf with her bestfriend and now they are happily married. So it all depends.

it CAN...but only if the people that were in a relationship aren't big enough to get over the break up. i know i've stayed friends w/most of my ex's and thats cuz we eventually get over the crap that happened. so it completely depends on the people.....
