I figure Jesus Christ and Adolf Hitler will be in the top 3 but which of them is more widely known, and who is the other person in the top 3? Muhammed (PBUH)?

I'll say Ronald McDonald is up there, as well as Santa Claus and Buddha. I once read that Ronald was more easily recognizable than Santa. Jesus is probably the most widely known, as his legacy has spanned centuries.

Honorable Mentions:
Mahatma Gandhi
Julius Caesar
William Shakespeare
Bach
Michelangelo
Leonardo DaVinci
Abraham Lincoln

Jesus I would agree with maybe not Hitler though, I would think purely on the factor of who she was Princess Diane even though she had a short life ten years on and they still go on about her. And I suppose if you ask the kids of this world they will say Ronald Mc Donald so just goes to show you how fucked up the world is.

Maybe Buddha would beat Adolph? Adolph is famous all over Europe/Russia/US, but Buddha has all of China, SE Asia, Japan, Korea, Tibet... and there's a lot Chinese, even disregarding the other countries there...

and how about Einstein? Got to be the most famous scientist of all time.

Buddha has been at it longer than either of them. Moses or Adam would cover several major religions.

I suspect Ronald McDonald beats them all though
