I have many ugly formulas that I have to add 2 to 8 times with a different value of x.
example (x^2)/4 + 456x^3 + (523/17)x^2 + 3x =932.1

I tried entering this:
(x^2)/4 + 456x^3 + (523/17)x^2 + 3x =932.1, x=4
(x^2)/4 + 456x^3 + (523/17)x^2 + 3x =932.1 x=7
(x^2)/4 + 456x^3 + (523/17)x^2 + 3x =932.1 x=9
etc.
etc.
but I get syntax errors

How do I do this with the ti-89 please?

Your command line should look like this

2 → x:(x^2)/4 + 456x^3 + (523/17)x^2 + 3x
then hit enter to get:

64227/17

856809/68 for x=3

but if you have this equation equalling 932.1 then use the solve( , in the F2 menu to sove for x.

your command line should look like this:
solve((x^2)/4 + 456x^3 + (523/17)x^2 + 3x =932.1,x) and hit enter to get the value of x.

use second, 4 which will give you the :, and you have to use the store function to input values for x, the store button is above the on button
for xample:
2 (sto) x : 5-x

Write the function into a Y= function space and use the solve function on the graph. Solve for root.
