I was in the same boat. I took 7 years off from undergrad, going back at age 27 and finishing 3 years later at age 30. I worked full-time while taking a full course load. Believe it or not, I never had problems dating. Although, looking back now, I wonder why I was dating those young guys! :) But that was fun. I never felt ostracized, and when I finally got that degree that was SO overdue, I felt great because I did it on my own.
Now, I have a story to tell my daughters about determination and how to overcome obstacles. Later, after I got married, I went back to school again for my master's in an online program. I'll be done with that at the end of this month. So, it's NEVER too late. Good luck, and just hang in there.

It's definitely not too old. You're only about 8 years older than when most people start. That's a small fraction of your working life.
As for student poverty, you'll probably find that you can get an overdraft any size you want as a student, so you'll be able to live well. Getting a computer science degree will raise your income so much that you'll be able to pay that pay and more.
As for finding a date - if you're female and hanging around a computer science department, it won't be a problem, though you may find, as they say, that the odds are good, but the goods are odd.

You know what? You'll be 30 years old in three years regardless of what you do, but you could be 30 with a degree or 30 without one. I think your chances are better with one. Yes, it will take a little sacrifice for three years, but the overall payout is far more than that. I don't know about in the UK, but studies in the U.S. have shown that the average college graduate earns about $1 million more over his/her lifetime than does someone who did not graduate from the university. Here, by the way, there are a number of universities for which 27or 28 is the average age of new students.
As to the dating problem, unless you like dating younger men, your bigger problem is that you might not want to date the men around you, rather than that no one would want to date you. Don't pretend to be 18, and socialize with people your own age. Being a student is actually a positive on the dating scene because you have more time flexibility and long holidays to spend with someone. Since you may want to take a part-time job anyway to pay expenses, you might claim to be doing what you do at that job (or you can define yourself by whatever you are doing now) if you are afraid that they will think you are too young for them if you say you are a student.

of course your not too old, if you feel that this is what would be best for you then go for it. 3 years from now you'll be glad that you did. I know quite a few people who are in their 30's and even close to their 60's who are still university students. There is nothing wrong with being a student at an older age.

No One is too old to go back to school......Just think only 3 years of school poverty to get through? I don't think it will be that bad because after school you will have a long long time to get yourself on the right track and be financially stable to enjoy life to its fullest! and who cares if no one wants to date a student your age.......while you're in school you can concentrate on school, maybe take a fuller class load to get through quicker........I am sure you will meet more people your age at school!

If you do it now, you'll be thirty when you are done. If you wait any longer, you'll be even older when you finish. Carpe diem (seize the day) while you are young. There are many adults who go to university even when they are in their 60s. Better to get it over with now than to waste time. Your degree can get you a better job and better pay, so why not just go ahead and do it? You'll have more money sooner...

You're never too old to learn. I'm 31 and thinking about taking an online class. Maybe that would be a better option for you.
