That usually happens when your child lays on one side for a long time. You need to turn him/her if he/she's not able to do it themselves. The thinning is normal most kids go through it. I was told that by my pediatrician.

Both could be yes. Your diet will affect your hair and its health alot since our hair is not something we NEED our body will put the nutrients somewhere else first. Alot of people report having thin or even falling out hiar when they are stressed as well. Here are a few more tips: * Eat healthy, this is a big thing. Make sure to get lots of protein(eggs, nuts, meat) omega-3(walnuts, fish, flaxseed) and vitamins(I take one a day, also, nuts and fruit/veggies) *cut out as much sugar as you can, if you drink stop, if you smoke stop(or cut down atleast) these three things are actually going to make growing your hair harder- and the drinking and smoking are actually going deplete your body of things it needs *Drink lots of water *Give your hair some TLC, consider weekly hair masks, hot oil and other treatments *When washing your hair be careful with it, dont rub the strands together, instead comb the shampoo through your hair, when you get out dont rub the towel against your, instead blot it dry(and then let it hair dry) also, never use a brush when your hair is wet, use a wide toothed comb. *Stimulate your scalp to help get the blood flowing and this will encourage your hair to grow, a couple cheap(free) was to do this is by giving yourself a scalp massage and simply flipping your head upside down. Also, remember that you body will always give the nutrients to the parts that need it most, and your hair is not very important so you have to make sure there is enough to go around.

my first daughters hair did that at the same time. She was 7 months old and was left with a mohawk so we buzzed her hair so it would come in even. She now has beautiful blond curly hair. she's 5. And my two month old has the bald spot on the back of her head too. When they sleep they just rub their head back and forth. IT's all fine.

Pick him up more and the hair will grow. If you leave him laying down all the time then he will get a bald spot or little hair in the back and more hair in the front.

It's very normal. Most babies lose the hair they're born with and grow new hair, sometimes even a different color!
