Since it is m's or r's multiplied by themselves over and over then you can use a calculator with a power button like this:

512 POWER (1/3) use a 3 because there are 3 m's
to get:

8

since 8*8*8 = 512

the check is to punch 8 POWER 3 on your calculator to get 512

for the next one r * r * r * r = 625

625 POWER (1/4) because there are 4 r's gives:
5 as an answer

check by doing 5*5*5*5= OR 5 POWER 4 to get
625

m * m *m = 512
m^3 = 512
m = 512^(1/3) [cube root]
m = 8

r * r * r * r = 625
r ^4= 625
r = 625^(1/4)
r = 5
