ford recalled my f250 for a "speed control system modification". A couple days later when accelerating it feels like it dies but engine just goes to idle and gas pedal does nothing, check engine light is on

Could be a couple of things.
There is usually a throttle position sensor which is nothing more than variable resistor. It could have a dead spot which limits sending the correct signal to the engine control module.
Not sure about f250 but they range from $15-$60 usually and it is easily replaced (eg. wiring connector, and two bolts) Again not familiar with f250 specifically, but this is common for many cars.

The engine error code will pinpoint it exactly, so you can go pay for a diagnostic or some auto parts stores will do this for free.

Search web for throttle position sensor f250

The part will be somewhere close to the air intake on the manifold... You should see the throttle cables...
If you replace it yourself, disconnect the battery first, this will reset the engine codes, and prevent any damage to the new one when you plug it in.

A faulty speed control will have no effect on how the engine runs. Connect an OBD2 code reader to find the fault, and don't waste time and money on other things.

Looks like someone gets to go back to the dealer again.

It could be a number of things:
Fuel pump.
Fuel filter.
Air filter.
Computer fault.
Throttle sensor.
Plugged exhaust.

The list goes on, and on, and on.......
