I mean, it seems to me that the only ones that are ever even nominated are polititians from the Hill, and they rose to power through deceit and god knows how many horrid scandals. It seems to me that with this system, we just pick the lesser of two evils. What do you think?

one has to belong to a dem or rep caucus or grass root organizationto be known and nominatedor if you have money or influence you can file for the office and lay your money down--see us constitution and amendments

Aside from the first two answers, under the law you have to name a committee to receive money and make out the reports and normally this is done at the time you announce your candidacy. Lots of paperwork.
