Confront them and ask them why they are doing it and solve the problem

I just don't waste my time worrying about it! There's an old saying, "Small things entertain small minds." People who have nothing better to do spread rumors. They are usually insecure and have low self-esteem. They generally see the people they talk about as better than they are, so their jealousy drives them to say things that are both unkind and untrue.

Pity them, forgive them, don't respond to them, and simply move on. You and those who truly care about you know the rumors aren't true, and as for everyone else, leave it behind you...just let it go!

I hope you have a very happy and safe holiday weekend! Annie

I guess I deal with it by finding out where they came from and calling out the one who's spreading them. I hate rumors and refuse to start or participate in the spreading of them!! They only hurt people and most often they're lies anyways....so I don't believe them anyways.

Confront them head-on.
Eradicate the problem at the source.
Deal with the head of the rumor-
makers.
Chances are they'll simply deny it.
But once they see you're not going to sit by idly and fade away,
they will soon get the message
that you mean business.
Be tactful, yet firm. Peace be yours.

Depends on the rumor. If it were a nice one and/or true I wouldn't say pretty much anything =) If it were a horrible lie I'd spit the person that tells it in the face ! several times!

I ignore it . . . or if I hear a rumor about who spread the rumor about me I'll go to that person & tell him to stop.

Concrete shoes
Cyanide
T.N.T
Done dirt cheap
Neckties
Contracts
High voltage!

Right now there's a rumor about me calling some girls "fat" on Myspace. Somebody apparently made a copy-cat profile of me so it looks just like I'm sending messages to people.

try to ignore them.... though that doesn't always work. But realise they must really be sad, pathetic, jealous people to make me the focal point of their fibs...... and feel bad that they are so obsessed with and jealous of me that they feel the need to spread lies and try to make me look bad in order to make themselves feel better and look like decent human beings when they're not......
and maybe, if i ignore them and don't respond, and condemn the lies as i hear them.... they'll go on to find someone else to talk about and make the focal point of their obnoxious hatred .... as those kind of people, that needlessly spread falsehood about another person, cannot function without someone to hate and talk about...... and they'll probably be that low-class the rest of their pathetic lives...... it's very sad.

If I know who is spreading them, I go to the source and call them out in front of everyone.

Whilst I like Frankies answer a lot - get out there and prove the lying gits wrong. And make them look fools for doing it.
